Portrait Study

I'm sharing notes from my recent portrait study. I think it's important to do art studies. For this portrait study, I wanted to focus on the planes of the face and use my knowledge of 3D to help add depth to the portrait. I'll continue to share more detailed process breakdowns to support the growth of my creative community. Keep creating.
When beginning a portrait study, I focus on the form and seeing past the flat surface. Even though I am drawing flat lines, I want the portrait to feel like it has a 3D shape. I do this by using my knowledge of 3D. I see the 3D shapes that make up the face, and I consider how light and shadows bounce off the portrait.

For this portrait study, I introduced color in the final stage. My color process can vary depending on what I'm trying to achieve in my art study. My main goals were to think about the planes of the face and envision the portrait as a 3D form. Color was an added bonus that allowed me to bring more life to this piece and add a vibrant pop.
